Cross-team role: Foresight team (FT) + Industrial Sustainability & Competitiveness (ISC) team

Reporting to50% to Head – New Initiatives, FT 
50% to Sr Programme Lead, ISC  

LocationNew Delhi, with some national and occasional international travel 

Purpose

The Foresight team manages most of CEEW’s national and international government, multilateral and institutional relationships through partnerships, projects and collaborative research. The ISC team aims to optimise three key elements of the industrial sector – energy use, resource use and carbon emissions, to drive low-carbon economic growth. Foresight tracks the geopolitics of energy transition and sustainable development, and with the ISC, the global governance and trade of critical resources.

The Engagement Lead will be responsible for maintaining FT + ISC’s regular interactions with high-level Union Government officials, embassies and diplomatic missions, and senior members of industry and multilateral agencies. This includes:

• Taking CEEW’s research to key stakeholders and taking their inputs on how CEEW’s work can inform national and international energy, resource and climate strategies and policies 
• Working with stakeholders and internal teams to plan and deliver strategic convenings
• Secondary research on the geopolitics and global governance of net-zero pathways, industrial decarbonisation, just energy transition, critical resources, and trade and value chains
• Supporting FT + ISC’s work for major global activities such as G20 India, S+50 Stockholm, UN High-Level Dialogue on Energy, Global Green Hydrogen Alliance and related G2H2 events, COP-27/28, CEEW’s flagship Energy Horizons, and other select international forums
• As CEEW is rapidly expanding its global footprint, the role also involves shaping and driving emerging special initiatives for FT+ISC

CEEW has an interdisciplinary research culture, and its value comes from adopting different methods and connecting dots across seemingly siloed policy and industry verticals. The Engagement Lead would work on, among other subjects, energy transitions, industrial systems, climate risks, resource security, governance of global commons, bilateral diplomacy, and international organisations and negotiations.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

Outreach 

• Managing FT + ISC’s day-to-day outreach efforts related to institutional and project-based relationships with key stakeholders 
• Building awareness and understanding of CEEW’s work and programmes, and ‘connecting the dots’ to deliver on requests from stakeholders, especially governments
• Forging strong relationships with industries and industry associations to connect them with CEEW’s decarbonisation work and create win-win opportunities 
• Setting realistic timelines and delivering on deadlines to earn stakeholder trust 

Research Coordination & Communication

• Understanding, comprehending, and synthesising from, CEEW’s research studies
• Creating concise summaries and snapshots that capture key research insights and outcomes such that it is easy to understand for senior executive and aligns with their objectives
• Developing policy briefs in response to urgent government requests 

Special Initiatives

• Delivering turnkey CEEW and/or Govt initiated special events or convenings.
• Knowledge management of projects, stakeholders, CEEW’s research and activities for FT + ISC

Selection Criteria

Education

• Master’s degree with with specialisation in business administration, public policy or related fields

Business skills 

• At least seven years of relevant work experience in the field of stakeholder engagement and project management, preferably in energy and climate policy
• Experience with governments, public institution and multilateral agencies preferred
• Strong track record of project management and timely, outcome-oriented delivery

Personality

• Willingness to learn new research and project management skills
• Ability to strike conversations and engage with a range of people from varied backgrounds
• Ability to dig deeper into details, while keeping a sense of the broader objectives
• Patience and perseverance to open doors and build relationships with new stakeholders
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment
• Ability to adapt to new environments and deliver in tight deadlines in a professional set-up
• Ability to effectively work in a team while being able to independently drive deliverables with minimum assistance when time demands
• Willingness to learn, grow and develop at personal and professional front, at a rapid pace with a steep learning curve

Travel

• Frequent local travel on a weekly basis to stakeholder offices, especially to various ministries.
• CEEW is rapidly expanding its collaborations at a state level. Also, many of the stakeholders will be outside of Delhi. Hence, the position will require on-demand domestic travel and occasional international travel.

CEEW operates in a dynamic environment, and the candidate will be required to show flexibility in undertaking a variety of tasks.

Compensation

Competitive compensation – commensurate to the experience and matching the best of standards adopted by industry or other similar organisations for similar roles.
