Puneet works with The Council’s Low-Carbon Pathways team on building the Global Change Assessment Model for India (GCAM - INDIA) at the state level. His research specialises in techno-economic and policy analysis in transportation, renewable energy, and the power sector.

Prior to joining The Council, he worked as a research analyst at Brookings Institution India Centre, New Delhi. During his tenure at Brookings, he mainly worked in areas related to coal, renewable energy, and freight transportation under the broader objective of “Future of Coal in India”. He led research on fuel supply chain to conventional power plants with a focus on coal transportation by Indian railways and its impact on the cost of power generation.

Before Brookings, he has worked with King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC), a Riyadh based energy policy think-tank. As a part of KAPSARC’s transportation team, his work focused on the growth of freight traffic in India and how policy and investment choices have impacted the share of freight traffic across various modes of transportation. He has authored and reviewed multiple studies on Indian Railways and coal. He also has lecturing experience on thermodynamics and heat transfer at the mechanical engineering department of LPU, Jalandhar.

Puneet holds an M. Tech in Renewable Energy Engineering from TERI University and has an MBA in Power Management from UPES.
